Seinan’s core business involves ferrous and non-ferrous metal scrapping. We shear, shred and screen? metals finely using state-of-the-art technology to produce recycled materials. When Seinan’s product comes into the world, scrap metals become a brand. In today’s world, materials are exposed to severe appraisal by users. Is the quality good enough? Is it pure enough? Is there a stable supply? Is the price acceptable? materials are shipped not only domestically but also internationally.

Auto-recycling

Seinan completes all processes involved in car recycling in a single procedure with an almost 100% recycling rate. Material and thermal recycling are used for the whole process, including collection of disused cars, dismantling, crushing at the company’s shredding plants, screening, and conversion of shredder dust (post-crushing residue seen as problematic in the disposal phase) into electricity at Seinan’s Aomori RER gasification melting furnace. Ultrec

New life for car materials

Seinan’s Ultrec department is a dedicated dismantling operation that specializes in car recycling. It is large, state-of-the-art disused car recycling plants in which the company’s cumulative technology and expertise are put to full use. Ultrec handles parts of the treatment process from collection to dismantlement. After each car is carefully and finely dismantled, parts that can be reused are saved and others are sent to a shredding plant for recycling. Ultrec was working to achieve a high recycling rate of almost 100% even before the Act on Recycling, etc. of End-of-Life Vehicles was established.

Smashing and crushing to create new materials

At Seinan’s shredder plant facilities, home appliances and disused cars are shredded, that is, smashed and crushed. For example, even disused cars can be broken down in just 20 seconds or so. The resulting pieces are machine-separated into different materials before being manually screened by plant staff. In this way, waste is turned into high-quality recycled materials through the eyes of machines and the eyes of humans.

RER (Renewable Energy Recycling)

Conversion of waste into electricity

Automotive shredder residue (ASR; commonly known as shredder dust) and other types of industrial waste (such as meat-and-bone meal, de-juiced apple pulp and scallop shells) are unsuitable for material recycling. Such items are processed via a thermal recycling system in which dioxins are fully decomposed at high temperatures and thermal energy is converted into electricity. This system is just as important in state-of-the-art recycling as the material approach, in which materials are extracted from waste through a series of screening processes.

Responsibility up to final disposal

Based on our belief that true industrial waste disposal specialists should also be responsible for final disposal, we operate an end-stage disposal site incorporating a water treatment facility. The site is carefully sealed off to prevent water on the site from polluting the external natural environment, and retained water is treated and reused within the site. The landfill volume is approximately 650,000?, making it one of the largest private facilities of its kind in the Tohoku region.

Changes in waste with the times

As scientific technology advances, new products with ever-higher levels of added value are manufactured. As a result, new types of waste are generated, requiring higher levels of waste disposal technology. It is often said that waste is like a mirror reflecting society; it shows what is popular, what is sought after and what is consumed. Against such a background, waste disposal technology is constantly evolving and new challenges in recycling are being tackled. One such challenge is the recycling of plastic containers/packaging and PET bottles. In compliance with the Containers and Packaging Recycling Law, Seinan leverages high-level technology and expertise gained from years of operation to achieve efficient and stable material recycling.

Plant floors as a textbook study

To treat today’s increasingly sophisticated types of waste, recycling technology also needs to be highly sophisticated. Seinan Engineer comprehensively tackles the establishment of recycling systems for all Seinan Group companies as well as the design, repair and maintenance of machine plants. It is a key section of the company for its refection of local opinions into systems and lines – ideas such as slight improvements to existing lines for increased efficiency, or the study and original customization of overseas state-of-the-art recycling machines for achievement of disposal appropriate for wastes in Japan.

A main Seinan artery

Seinan Express handles the whole logistics process from the collection of waste and its transfer between plants to the transportation of recycled products. The group as a whole runs about 220 cars, which are constantly in motion throughout the Tohoku region. In this way, Seinan Express acts as a main artery for the Seinan Group, supporting tailored recycling styles in individual areas.

04. ULTREC

Ultrec ? a portmanteau of ultimate + recycle

Ultrec provides abundant transportation capacity and services related to the Act on Recycling, etc. of End-of-Life Vehicles.

With a lineup of diversified transport equipment, the organization can speedily respond to client needs (subject to location) with expert staff providing answers on procedures concerning disused cars (deregistration, recycling fees, weight tax refunds and the like).

Ultrec uses an advanced quality control system to create high-quality recycled components. The use of a car warehousing system allows the storage of a wide variety of components in large volumes as well as speedy, reliable shipping. The organization contributes to an information management system with a national network, and sells recycled components all over Japan.
